Weekly Wellbeing

Student wellbeing is of paramount importance to all stakeholders at Trinity Academy Grammar and we take a holistic approach to our delivery and monitoring of wellbeing.

For more information on our pastoral support for emotional health and wellbeing, please visit the Wellbeing page on our website.

Across the whole academy, we look at the personal development of students through five key strands. They are: SMSC, character education, RSHE, Values and Ambitious Aspirations. These strands can be broken down further to help us understand what each one means:

SMSC Character Education RSHE Values Ambitious Aspirations
Social Pastoral Care Relationships education Democracy Careers
Moral Resilience Sex education Rule of law Post 16 opportunities
Spiritual Nurturing interests & talents Health education Individual liberty Preparation for adulthood
Cultural Contributing to society Mutual tolerance & respect Transition between key stages
Confidence Core values
Celebrating diversity

This list is not exhaustive but is a good starting point for understanding the holistic view we take when it comes to student wellbeing.

Our Curriculum Leaders have looked at their curriculum maps through the lens of personal development and are aware of when their curriculum areas cross over with these themes. Continued Professional Development (CPD) has taken place to enable all staff to deliver lessons that touch on these themes in an accurate, sensitive and powerful way.

We have a lesson dedicated to student wellbeing: it is called Weekly Wellbeing, and it takes place once a week for all students in the school. This provision considers Personal, Social, Health and Economic education (PSHE), as well as Relationships, Sex and Health education (RSHE), alongside the National Curriculum for citizenship. British values are taught explicitly through this lesson also, giving students the knowledge they need to actively engage in British society and contribute positively to it.

As of September 2026, the new RSHE policy from the Government becomes statutory. Our RSHE Policy can be found on the Policies page.

Our overarching topics in Weekly Wellbeing are:

  • Health and Wellbeing
  • Healthy Relationships
  • Safeguarding
  • Living in the Wider World.

Sex Education: Lessons highlighted in pink on the Weekly Wellbeing topic map are classified as Sex Education. A parent/carer may request that their child is withdrawn from some or all sex education delivered as part of statutory RSE. There is no right to withdraw from relationships education, health education or national curriculum science, including puberty or sexual reproduction. If this is a parent/carers wish, they should send a written request to the Principal identifying the lesson or content. Appendix 2 of the RHSE policy, which can be found on the Policies page, may be used but the form is not required. A discussion with the parent/carer and, where appropriate, the student, will then be offered. The discussion will clarify the curriculum, the benefits of participation and possible detrimental effects of withdrawal, including social or emotional impact and the risk of receiving an inaccurate account from peers. The Principal will grant the request unless exceptional circumstances justify refusal, for example safeguarding concerns or the student’s specific vulnerability. The Academy records the request, discussion, student’s views where appropriate, decision, reasons, dates, content and review arrangements. Any refusal is reasoned and communicated in writing.

The topic map is available to download below. The lesson overview for Weekly Wellbeing changes annually based on student needs.
